Dr Jordan Bell Dean
I love the energy of the residents – you really get a sense that some of them are going to go out and change the world! Being around so much enthusiasm and positivity keeps me engaged and happy.
I read voraciously, mostly popular fiction, literary fiction and science fiction – I love the way reading opens a window to empathy with people in different situations to your own, and the way science fiction in particular helps you understand the human condition by asking “What if this one thing was different? What would the world be like then?”
What makes me happy? Playing with my daughter Ruby, who lives on-site with me at College. Dancing when my husband Ian is DJing. Watching Lincoln residents achieve in their endeavours. Helping residents when they are feeling troubled or need advice.
Favourite film: Keeping the Faith with Jenna Elfman, Ben Stiller and Edward Norton. It’s the kind of film that makes you laugh but also makes you want to be a better person, and it has a great soundtrack.
Favourite book: The Gone-Away World by Nick Harkaway – an utterly bonkers and thought-provoking look at a post-apocalyptic Earth, with ninjas and pirates. It will make you think, make you angry, confuse you for a while, make you laugh and make you marvel at Harkaway’s amazing writing.
